Standing with DEBRA: Why We’re Proud to Support the “Butterfly Skin” Charity

At The Leading Clinic at Royal Kingston, care is at the heart of everything we do. Beyond the treatments we provide, we believe in supporting causes that change lives. That’s why we are proud to support DEBRA, the national charity for people living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) – often known as “butterfly skin.”

EB is a rare, painful genetic condition that causes the skin to blister and tear at the slightest touch, as fragile as a butterfly’s wings. For the 5,000 people living with EB in the UK, everyday life means constant bandaging, repeated infections, and ongoing medical care. There is no cure – yet.

Children with EB often need extensive bandaging to protect their fragile skin. By supporting DEBRA, we can help fund vital care and life-changing research.

Why DEBRA Matters

DEBRA funds pioneering research into treatments and potential cures, while also providing vital care and support for families. From specialist nurses and patient support grants to campaigning for faster access to medication, their work offers hope and practical help to those facing the daily challenges of EB.

Because EB is rare, it doesn’t attract the same funding as more common conditions. This makes the role of charities like DEBRA, and the generosity of those who support them, absolutely essential.

How You Can Help

Supporting DEBRA can make a real difference. Whether that’s through:

  • Donations that fund research into repurposed drugs and clinical trials.

  • Shopping or donating at DEBRA charity shops, with locations across the UK.

  • Raising awareness by learning and sharing more about EB.

Every action, big or small, helps fund life-changing research and services.

Our Commitment

As a medical clinic, we know how important it is for people to feel safe, supported, and cared for. By supporting DEBRA, we stand alongside families affected by EB and help raise awareness of the urgent need for breakthroughs.

We invite you to learn more and join us in supporting this incredible cause.
